MISHAWAKA - Ardith Ann Tomes, 72, of Holdrege Memorial Homes, Holdrege NE, formerly of Mishawaka, IN passed away Monday January 11, 2010 after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease. She was born July 6, 1937 in Bertrand, NE to the late Gerald and Mabel (Anderson) Nelson. On November 15, 1963 she married Thomas J. Tomes in Omaha, NE, who preceded her in death in 1996, along with a son Joel (Joe) Tomes in 2006. Left to cherish her memories are her sons, Michael Sr., (Coleen) Tomes of New Carlisle, IN, Thomas A. "Tony" (Jodi) Tomes of Sierra Vista, AZ, and Donald E. "Donnie" (Michele) Tomes of Minden, NE; grandchildren Sean and Michael Jr. Tomes, Kayla and Shayne Tomes, Brittany, Brook, Jacob and Julie Tomes; and 4 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Geraldine (Geri) Vinzant of Bertrand, NE, Gloria Way Of Lexington, NE, and two brothers, Richard (Dick) Anderson of San Diego, CA and Darrell Nelson of Orange, CA. She loved her children, grandchildren, playing cards with family and friends, and was an avid reader. She was a league bowler for several years at Regal Lanes in Mishawaka, IN, and always enjoyed a good laugh. She will be sadly missed by her loving family, and all who knew her in her courageous journey. A memorial service was held in Holdrege, NE. Her Funeral service will be held at 11:00am Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Flowers Leedy Funeral Home 105 W. 3rd St., Peru, IN 46970. Burial will follow in Santa Fe, IN. To honor her wishes, there will be no visitation. To see your face and watch you smile, to sit with you and talk awhile, to be together in the same old way would be our greatest wish today. The tears in our eyes we can wipe away, but the ache in our hearts will always stay. Life goes on, we know that's true, but nothing's the same since we lost you.
