Charles Harold Torbenson

April 14, 1913 - July 12, 2002

Charles H. Torbenson, 89 years old, residing on Northside Blvd., South Bend, passed away at 9:46 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2002, at the St. Joseph Care Center-West, South Bend. Mr. Torbenson was born on April 14, 1913, in Iola, WI, to the late Oscar and Sophia (Halverson) Torbenson. He has lived in our local area for the past 47 years.

 

On December 25, 1942, in Lawton, Oklahoma, he married Thelma "Sally" Lockery, who survives. Along with his wife of 60 years, Sally, survivors include three daughters, Dona (Michael) Sheehan of Cedar, MI, Kristin (Spartaco) Casini of South Bend, and Joni Jordan of South Bend; one son, Gifford (Nancy) Torbenson of South Bend; seven grandchildren, Gifford (Antoinette) Maddock, Jeff (Jennifer) Torbenson, Mikki (Ken) Paul, Angela (Christopher) Nooe, Dominic Casini, Gabrielle Casini and Eric Kulcsar; and ten great-grandchildren.

 

Mr. Torbenson retired from Fabricated Steel Corporation, South Bend. He was also a former school teacher and coach at Wittenburg High School in Wittenburg, WI, as well as in Caledonia, Minnesota. Mr. Torbenson was a member of the Lakeville Masonic Lodge #353, F&AM, Avalon Grotto of South Bend, Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, Orak Temple Shrine in Michigan City, Shrine Club of South Bend and Order of the Eastern Star, Lakeville. He also served his country during WW II with the United States Army, stationed in Ft. Still, Oklahoma.

 

Masonic memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to services. Contributions in memory of Charles H. Torbenson may be donated to the Shriners Hospital for Children, Chicago Unit, 2211 North Oak Park Avenue, 60707-3392.
