SOUTH BEND - Irene R. Toth, 89, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 11:23 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2008, in The Milton Home. Irene was born on May 31, 1919, in Big Run, PA, to Joseph and Mary (Mate) Chookie Sr. She had lived in South Bend since 1950. Irene was formerly employed by Alumni Tool and Die as an Office Manager. She was also co-owner of Cass Tool and Die. She had also been a Travel Agent since 1960.

On June 5, 1940, in Holy Cross Church in Saltsburg, Pennsylvania, as Irene R. Chookie, she married David J. Toth, who preceded her in death on April 26, 2000. Also preceding her in death was her sister, Grace Maloney in 1993. Survivors include her brother, Joseph (Sharon) Chookie of Fairfield Glade, TN; seven nieces and nephews, Kevin (Sarah) Chookie of KY, Sandra Chookie of TN, Theresa Hecklinski of TX, Mary Kay (Bob) Bader of CA, Anthony (Kathy) Maloney of South Bend, Cathy Ann Hills of MN and Joe (Nancy) Maloney of SC; and by many great-nieces and great- nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2008, in Holy Family Church. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m.  Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Church.
