Sister M. Alvina Traeger CSC

Sister M. Alvina (Lillian Traeger) CSC was born in Peru, Illinois, to the late Carl and Alvina (Hombuecher) Traeger. She was one of six children, three of whom have predeceased her.

Sister is survived by her sister, Beatrice (Ronald) White; brother, Donald (Judy) Traeger; and nephew, David Traeger, all of Illinois. She is also survived by many friends.

 

Before entering the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross in 1944, Sister Alvina worked as a carton assembler for Owens Illinois Glass Co. After entering Holy Cross, she was trained as a teacher and taught in elementary schools in Illinois, Indiana and Michigan for nearly 40 years. Sister taught another five years and in 1986, she worked with Holy Cross Shared Services (HCSC) as a purchasing assistant and as a supervisor of microfilming and driver for the sisters.

 

Illness forced Sister to slow down and she moved to Saint Mary's Convent, Notre Dame, Indiana, where she was part of the volunteer service to the community. In later years, she was active in the Ministry of Prayer until her death. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, Indiana 46556.

 

Reception of the Body and Wake will be Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at 4 p.m. in Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, IN. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. in Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, IN. Burial will be at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, IN. Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
