Richard L. Troeger Sr.

Nov. 6, 1925 - March 25, 2002

Richard Louis Troeger Sr., 76, residing on South 30th Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 4 a.m. Monday, March 25, in Hospice House, South Bend.

He was born Nov. 6, 1925, in South Bend, as the son of Christopher and Emma (Hedman) Troeger, and had been a lifelong resident of this area. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mildred Vogle; and by a brother, Melvin Troeger.

He served in the Fourth Division of the Marine Corps during World War II, and attended Hillsdale College, Hillsdale, Mich.

Then, on June 28, 1947, in South Bend, he married Doris M. Hurst. He is survived by his loving wife, Doris of 54 years; a daughter and son-in-law, Judith Lea and Thomas Popielski of Arlington, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard L. and Patricia Troeger Jr. of Granger, Ind.; four grandchildren, Christopher Popielski, Cassidy Troeger, Richelle Troeger and Judd Troeger; and by two sisters, Carmen and Robert Mitchell of South Bend, and Gladys McCleland of Rolling Prairie, Ind.

He retired in 1980 as a sales engineer with the Uniroyal Corporation following 35 years of service. He was a lifelong member of River Park United Methodist Church, was a member of St. Joseph Lodge #45, F&AM, and Mishawaka Eagles Lodge.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 29, in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Rev. Phil Abram, pastor of River Park United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Palmer Funeral Home.
