Rev. J. Kemp Tunis

Sept. 19, 1906 - Feb. 12, 1997

Rev. J. Kemp Tunis, 90, of 59255 Hollywood Blvd., South Bend, Ind., passed away at 2:45 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, in his residence.

Rev. Tunis was born on Sept. 19, 1906, in Baltimore, Md. He had resided in South Bend since 1977, coming from Staunton, Ind.

On June 27, 1934, in Baltimore, Md., he married A. Celestia Fuller, who preceded him in death on Nov. 29, 1980.

Rev. Tunis is survived by three loving children, two daughters and a son. Surviving are Mary Carol Ringler, South Bend, Celestia O. Bradburn, Shelbyville, Ind., Joseph K. Tunis, III, South Bend; nine loving grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Rev. Tunis graduated from Western Carolina University and Asbury Theological Seminary. He served several churches in the Methodist Conference. He was a member of Masonic Lodge F&AM 619, Walkerton, Ind.; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, Ind.; and was a member of the Northwest United Methodist Conference.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hanley & Sons ''Southwest Chapel'' Funeral Home, West Ireland Road & SR 23, South Bend.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, in the funeral home. Friends may call two hours prior to time of service on Friday.

Burial will take place at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Officiating will be Cheryl Stratton of United Methodist Women.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph County Hospice or to the charity of donor's choice.
