South Bend Tribune, Local Obituaries, February 14, 1977:

Fred R. Unger, 73, of 610 S. 24th, died at 12:35 p.m. Sunday in Memorial Hospital after an illness of two months.  He was born in Tipton County, Ind. on May 10, 1903 and moved to South Bend 40 years ago from Canada.

 

A retired partner in Unger's Body Shop, he was a charter member of the Independent Garage Owner's Association.  On August 10, 1946, in South Bend, he married Evelyn R. Raquet.  She survives, in addition to a daughter, Betty Unger of South Bend; two sons, William Unger, of Kodiak, Alaska, and Richard H. Van Zant of Granger; four grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Grace Huff, of Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, and two brothers, Herman and Clark Unger of South Bend.  Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, Mishawaka <Indiana>.

 

Funeral Notes, February 15, 1977:

Services for Fred R. Unger, 73, of 610 S. 24th, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Bub Funeral Chapel in Mishawaka where friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today.  J. A. Mellander of the Jehovah's Witnesses will officiate.  Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.  He died suddenly Sunday night in Memorial Hospital after an illness of two months.
