NEW CARLISLE -- Rose Unger, 96, of Hamilton Grove Retirement Community, died Tuesday in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Howland of Lakeville; a son, Ronald R. of Port Orange, Fla.; and a sister, Margaret Post of Thousand Oaks, Calif. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Palmer Funeral Home, Lakeville, where friends may call two hours before services.

Rose Unger (Aug. 25, 1907 -- Jan. 6, 2004).

Rose Unger, 96, residing on Chicago Trail, New Carlisle, Ind., passed away at 3:35 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 6, in the Memorial Hospital, South Bend.

Mrs. Unger was born on Aug. 25, 1907, in Beaver Falls, Pa., to the late Alex and Rose (Gocza) Farkas. She had resided in our local area most of her life. On Jan. 12, 1935, in South Bend, she married Herman Henry Unger, who preceded her in death on Dec. 22, 1986. One sister, Anna Deka, and one brother, Alex Farkas, also preceded Mrs. Unger in death.

Mrs. Unger is survived by one daughter, Sharon Howland of Lakeville; one son, Ronald R. (Bette) Unger of Port Orange, Fla.; five grandchildren, Kelly (David) Onk of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, Todd Unger of Alexandria, Va., Eric Unger of Orlando, Fla., Jamie Unger of New York, N.Y., and Mark (Dawn) Howland of Tyner, Ind.; seven great-grandchildren; and by one sister, Margaret Post of Thousand Oaks, Calif.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 12, in the Palmer Funeral Home, 314 S. Michigan St., Lakeville. Rev. Bill Walder, pastor of the Crossroads Evangelical Free Church, Plymouth, will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may visit with the family two hours prior to services in the funeral home on Monday.
