Sister Marjorie Urbine CSC, 84, died on Jan. 10 in Saint Mary's Convent, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, Ind. Sister Marjorie (Sister Mary Josile) was born on April 8, 1915, to the late Elmer James Urbine and Gladys Lucille Crabbs Urbine. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross at Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, Ind., on July 5, 1933, from Fort Wayne, Ind., and made her final profession in the Congregation on Aug. 15, 1939.

 

Sister Marjorie is survived by her sister, Dorothy Junk of Fort Wayne, and cousins, Sister M. Alma Louise Fitch, Saint Mary's, and Philomena Fitch of Auburn, Ind.

 

Sister Marjorie taught in elementary schools from 1936 until 1947 at the following schools: Notre Dame Prep. Department, Holy Cross School, South Bend, St. Paul's, Valparaiso Ind., St. Vincent's, Elkhart, Ind., and St. Mary's Junior School, Notre Dame, and later at St. Mary's School, Michigan City, Ind. She was a teacher in kindergarten at St. Patricks, South Bend, in 1948. Sister Marjorie received further education, a BS and MA degree in General Home Economics from Stout Institute, now the University of Wisconsin, and her MA in Sacred Scripture from Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame. Sister Marjorie taught Home Economics at St. Joseph High School, South Bend, and Home Economics at Bishop Noll Institute, Hammond, Ind. She became the community seamstress at Immaculata Hall Convent, Notre Dame, and Our Lady of Holy Cross, South Bend. Sister came to Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, in 1990 where she entered into the prayer apostolate until her death.

 

A wake service was held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 11, in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's. A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. today in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's, followed by interment at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame.
