Robert R. Urgonski: (South Bend Tribune 9/21/2001)


May 15, 1926 – Sept. 19, 2001 Robert R. Urgonski, 75, of Dana Drive in South Bend, Ind. Passed away Wednesday, Sept. 19, in Hospice House, South Bend. Mr. Urgonski was born on May 15, 1926, in South Bend, to the late Stephen and Stella (Wroblewski) Urgonski. He was preceded in death by a brother William Urgonski. On April 12, 1947, in South Bend, Robert married Dorothy Kiryan, his wife of 54 years, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Kathy (Tom) Bajdek of South Bend; a son Ken (Lyn) of North Liberty, Ind.; four grandchildren, Bryan and Jennifer Urgonski of North Liberty, Ken (Darla) Bajdek of Plymouth, Ind.; Kim (Tim) Bennett of Fremont, Ind.; and by two great-grandchildren, Kody and Hunter Bennett. Mr. Urgonski retired from the South Bend Police Department, and then retired from AM General. He served with the European Theater of Operations during World War II with the 102nd Division as a rifleman and military policeman. He was a member of F.O.P. Lodge 36 and VFW #8748. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 21, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, in St. Hedwig Catholic Church, with entombment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
