Hugh A. Uselman

ELKHART - Hugh A. Uselman, 86, residing at the Rosewood Terrace Nursing Home, Elkhart, Ind., formerly of 801 Taylor Street, Elkhart, passed away of natural causes at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, at the nursing home. Mr. Uselman retired from Pickrell's Florist after 35 years of employment. He also retired in 1998 from Elkhart Plating after working part time. Hugh was born on Oct. 23, 1911, in Rosedale, Ind., to the late Ovid and Clara (James) Uselman. He had resided most of his life in Elkhart.

 

In March 1954, in South Bend, Ind., he married Alta A. Uselman, who preceded him in death on Nov. 7, 1994. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Warren Uselman in 1986. Mr. Uselman is survived by a brother, O. Daryl Uselman of Elkhart.

 

He was a member of the Heritage Baptist Church. Mr. Uselman was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, honorably discharged as a staff sergeant, who was a recipient of a Purple Heart and had five recommendations for the Bronze Star. Hugh was also a member of the American Legion in Osceola.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 1, at the Palmer Funeral Home, 1109 Lincolnway West, Osceola, Ind. Rev. Michael L. Lake, pastor of the Heritage Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial and military graveside services will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Osceola. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 31, at the Palmer Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
