MISHAWAKA - Janet H. Vaerewyck, 85, of 552 W. 11th St., died at 8:30 a.m. Thursday in her home. Mrs. Vaerewyck retired as a registered nurse after 42 years of service. She was born Feb. 11, 1910, in South Bend.
On Aug. 27, 1932, in Mishawaka, as Janet Hathaway, she married Richard G. Vaerewyck. He survives with two daughters, Sally Jo Walter of North Chicago, Ill., and Shirley Ann Hajek of Miami; two sons, Eugene G. of Bozeman, Mont., and Larry R. of Chesterton; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Weldon of Barnes, Wis.; and a brother, Vernon Hathaway of Severn, Md.
She was a member of St. Bavo's Catholic Church and was a graduate of St. Joseph Hospital's School of Nursing Class of 1931.
There will be no services or visitation. Cremation will take place. Hahn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County Inc.
