Rene Camille Vaerewyck

Rene Camille Vaerewyck, 90, of Candlewycke Court, Granger, Ind., died following an illness at 11:27 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Ind. Mr. Vaerewyck was born Sept. 28, 1914, in Bevrenwas, Belgium, to the late Frank and Philomena Vaerewyck, and had lived in the South Bend area since 1947, coming from Belgium.

 

On April 29, 1939, in Bevrenwas, he married Josee M. De Dobbelaere, who preceded him in death on April 8, 1995. He is survived by a daughter, Agnes (James) Rosebrook of Granger; three sons, Michael (Wanda) Vaerewyck of Edwardsburg, Mich., Wilfred (Sharlene) Vaerewyck of South Bend and George (Katie) Vaerewyck of Mishawaka, Ind.; and by 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

 

Mr. Vaerewyck was employed as a custodian for the South Bend Community School Corporation for 24 years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees and Christ the King Catholic Church.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today, Oct. 27, in Christ the King Catholic Church, with Rev. Thomas Jones, C.S.C., officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. The family will receive friends in the church from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass. The Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, is handling arrangements.
