SOUTH BEND - Walter Vance, 87, of Primrose Trail, died at 3 p.m. Monday in St. Joseph's Medical Center after an illness. Mr. Vance was a self-employed farmer and retired from Studebaker Corp. after 43 years of service. He was born July 20, 1906, in Ligonier, and was a lifelong area resident.
On Aug. 29, 1925, in Mishawaka, he married Dorothy Carpenter. She survives, with four nephews, James Vance of Mishawaka, Darwin Vance of Missouri, Cecil Johnson of Ligonier, and Raymond Johnson of Goshen. He was a member of Lydick United Methodist Church.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
