Oscar C. Van De Putte

Oscar C. Van De Putte, 95, of South Main Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after an illness at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 30, in St. Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka. Mr. Van De Putte was born on April 23, 1905, in Mariekerke, Belgium, as the son of the late Henry and Zelma (Bekeart) Van De Putte.

 

On June 1, 1926, in Mishawaka, he married the former Ethel M. Shoemaker, who preceded him in death on Aug. 27, 1994. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Van De Putte and George Van De Putte. Mr. Van De Putte is survived by a sister, Alice Van Poppel of Mishawaka; and by 16 nieces and nephews, and 31 great-nieces and nephews.

 

Mr. Van De Putte was elected as clerk and treasurer of the City of Mishawaka for 15 years, and retired in 1972. He was the owner of the Stag Pool Room and the owner of the former Manhattan Cafe, Mishawaka. He was a member of St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka. He was a Knights of Columbus Past Grand Knight, and a member of the Moose.

 

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. Eighth Street, Mishawaka, where wake prayers will be at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2, in St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka, with Rev. Barry England officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Mishawaka. Contributions in memory of Mr. Van De Putte may by made to the St. Bavo's 2000 Project, 511 W.
