Edward J. VanderHagen

Edward J. VanderHagen, 85, died at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 21, in the Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation Center. Edward was born on Dec. 29, 1914, in South Bend, Ind., to Alphonse and Mary (DeMeyer) VanderHagen.

On March 4, 1943, Edward married Elsie H. Magnuson, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Sandy (Larry) St. Germain of Mishawaka, Ind., and Vicky (Donald) Wigent of South Bend; six grandchildren, Kimberly Adami, Kristen Scott, Kathryn Pierce, Christopher Wigent, Stephanie Pierce and Erin Wigent; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elaine (Alex) Pyclik, Evelyn (Jim) Kates and Eleanor VanderHagen, all of South Bend; and by three brothers, William (Joann) VanderHagen of Misha-waka, Lawrence VanderHagen of South Bend and Frank (Marge) VanderHagen of Cocoa Beach, Fla. He was preceded in death by a great-grandchild and by a sister.

 

Edward was a retired distributor of Pepperidge Farms Bread. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 360, Mishawaka.

 

Private family services will be held following cremation. Burial will take place in Riverview Cemetery.

The family asks that any contributions in memory of Edward J. VanderHagen be made to the Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation Center, 1950 Ridgedale Road, South Bend, IN 46614.

The Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, handled arrangements.
