Hattie Vanderheyden

Hattie Vanderheyden, 96, of South 36th St., South Bend, Ind., passed away at 3:45 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, in St. Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka, Ind., after a brief illness. Hattie was born on Jan. 29, 1900, in Plymouth, Ind., to John and Nancy Kline, who both preceded her in death.

 

In 1936 she married Joseph Vanderheyden at St. Matthew's Cathedral in South Bend. He also preceded her in death on Oct. 15, 1962. She is survived by a son, Joseph W. Vanderheyden of South Bend; two granddaughters, Angela M. Brun of Loves Park, Ill., and Beth A. Vandenheyden of Balcamp, Md.; a great-granddaughter, Julia Nicole Brun of Loves Park, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.

 

Hattie retired from the South Bend Community School Corporation in 1975 after 25 years of service as a cook at Jefferson Junior High School. She was a member of St. Monica Parish in Mishawaka, the church's Rosary Society, and was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the State of Indiana for Honorable Service from Otis R. Bowen, M.D., Governor.

 

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 17, in St. Monica Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Mishawaka. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16, in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, Mishawaka, with a rosary being recited at 3:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Monica Parish building fund.
