William Van Der Voort

MISHAWAKA - William Van Der Voort, 83, passed away Thursday at 3 p.m. in Fountainview Place, Mishawaka. Mr. Van Der Voort was born on Aug. 16, 1913, in Brook, Ind., and was an area resident since 1927.

 

On Feb. 17, 1946, in First United Methodist Church, Mishawaka, he married Lois D. Bent. She survives him along with two daughters, Deborah Anne (Dale) Culp of Nappanee, Ind., and Janice Lynn (William) Hopp of Terre Haute, Ind.; four grandchildren, Andrew Culp and Casey Chatham, both of Terre Haute, and Michele Newman and Sarah Culp, both of Nappanee; two great-grandsons, Christopher Hartleroad, Jr. of Wakarusa, Ind., and Matthew Newman of Nappanee. Two brothers preceded him in death.

 

Mr. Van Der Voort was employed by Barnards Hardware in retail management for 28 years and retired in 1978. Mr. Van Der Voort was a former Scout Master, charter member of the Mishawaka YMCA and served as a board member of the YMCA, a member of First United Methodist Church, Mishawaka, where he was a Sunday school teacher, Mission Committee Trustee, and attended Wesley Sunday School Class. He also served on the Beiger Trust Committee and was very active in the Meals on Wheels program.

 

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, in First United Methodist Church, Mishawaka, with Rev. Dan Motto and Rev. Mark Engle officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.

Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. Eighth St., Mishawaka. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church, 201 E. Third St., Mishawaka, IN 46544 or The Bashor Home, Route 3, Box 843, Goshen, IN 46526.
