Clement VanDeVoorde

Aug. 11, 1922 - Aug. 28, 1996

Clement VanDeVoorde, 74, of South Bend, passed away at 5:05 a.m., Thursday, in St. Joseph's Medical Center. He was a mill worker at UniRoyal, and retired in 1985 after over 31 years of service.

He was born Aug. 11, 1922, in Mishawaka, and lived in this area all of his life. His parents, Cyriel and Julie (VanOoteghem) VanDeVoorde both preceded him in death. On June 30, 1945, he married Helen Stuban, who also preceded him in death on June 30, 1970.

On March 10, 1984, he married Helen Deal, who survives.

Also surviving are a stepdaughter, Maria Gross of South Bend; a son, James C. VanDeVoorde, also of South Bend; one granddaughter, one step-granddaughter; two stepsons, Vincent Deal of South Bend and Kenneth Deal of Elkhart, Ind.; and two sisters, Cecelia Midday and Rose VanDeVoorde, both of Mishawaka.

He was a World War II veteran of the Army, and was a P.O.W. from Dec. 18, 1944 until April 12, 1945.

There will be no visitation or services. Cremation will take place with burial at a later date.

He was a member of the B. K. Club of Mishawaka.
