Betty Joe VanDusen, 70, of North Brookfield, South Bend, died at 3:52 p.m. on Saturday, at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, after a brief illness. Betty was a homemaker, born on Sept. 1, 1926, in Shelbiana, Ky., to the late Charles and Pricie Hicks. She had lived in the South Bend area most of her life.

On June 2, 1951, in South Bend, she married Donald J. VanDusen, who survives. Also surviving are two sons and their wives; Edward and Mary Blair, and Paul and Mindi Blair, all of South Bend, seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Johnny Hicks of Jacksonville, Fla.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday July 8, at the Hollis-Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Rev. Ed Marang, pastor of the West Side Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday (today) July 7, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Hospice of St. Joseph County, Inc., or to the American Cancer Society. Hollis-Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
