Geneva O. Van Hove

Geneva O. (De Vlieger) Van Hove, 100, of W. 7th Street, Mishawaka, passed away in the early morning hours of Wednesday, December 28 in Countryside Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Mishawaka. Geneva was born on October 6, 1905, in South Whitley, Indiana to the late Frank and Eva (Stillwell) Matson. Also preceding her in death were four sisters, Goldy, Grace, Gertrude and Mildred; two brothers, Boyd and an infant; and a great-grandson, Samuel.

 

On July 16, 1924, in St. Joseph Michigan, she married Leon "Flyer" DeVlieger who preceded her in death on September 2, 1974. On January 22, 1977, she married Leonard Van Hove who preceded her in death on January 26, 1992. Surviving Geneva are a daughter, Nancy (Tom) Flatt of Mishawaka; four grandchildren, William (Dawn) Flatt, Ronald (Diane) Flatt, James (JoAnn) Flatt and Steven Flatt; seven great-grandchildren, Marci Mandigo, Ryan, Joseph, Angela, Monica, Nicholas and Katherine Flatt.

 

Geneva always said that she wanted to live to be 100 years old and she did just that and a few months longer. She was a member of St. Bavo Catholic Church, Mishawaka, BK Club Auxiliary and the Altar Society.

 

Family and friends may come together to celebrate Geneva's life from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., where a Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m., on Friday, December 30 in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 31, in St. Bavo Catholic Church with Rev. Barry England officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Memorial contributions may be made, in Geneva's name to, St. Joseph County Special Olympics.
