Emil L. Van Huffel

MISHAWAKA – Emil L. Van Huffel, 71, of 1020 S. Wells Street, died at 8:56 p.m. Monday in St. Joseph Medical Center, South Bend, after an illness. Mr. Van Huffel retired from Bendix Corp. in 1980ter 27 years of service. He was born April 6, 1917 in Galesburg, Ill., and spent most of his life in this area.

 

On Nov. 22, 1945, in Mishawaka, he married Joan M. Schroeder. She survives along with a daughter, Cheryl Nix of Huntington, Ind.; two sons, Alan of Granger and Martin of Mishawaka; nine grandchildren; and a sister, Jeanette Lochmandy of Vandalia.

 

He was a member of St. Bavo’s Catholic Church, and was a Navy veteran of World War II and member of the USS Enterprise Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 360, the BK Club and Elks Lodge 1402, McAllen, Texas.

 

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Bavo’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, where a wake service will be at 7:30 p.m.
