Joan M. Van Huffel

Joan M. Van Huffel, 81, died at Heritage Park in fort Wayne, IN from Alzheimer's Disease.

She was born on Oct. 27, 1923 to the late Luella (Gard) and Fred Schroeder in Mishawaka, IN. She was preceded in death by a brother Rev. Fred Schroeder of Carmel, IN, a sister Virginia Schroeder, a sister Angela Tiedge of Sarasota, FL and a son Martin L. Van Huffel of Mishawaka.

She married her late husband Emil L. Van Huffel on Nov. 22, 1945.

 

She is survived by her daughter Cheryl (Gregory) Nix of Fort Wayne; her son Alan (Pamela) of South Bend, and a brother, Raymond Schroeder of Interlachen, FL. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Michele (Steve) Talos and Jennifer (Brian) Bishop both of South Bend, Mark (Kim) Van Huffel of Fortville, IN, Sam, Ben and Sara Van Huffel all of Mishawaka, Brian (Becky) Nix and Amy Nix of Fort Wayne, IN, and nine great grandchildren.

 

Joan was last employed as the executive secretary to Franklin Schurz Jr. of the South Bend Tribune. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. Joan will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her, but never forgotten.

 

Family and friends may call from 12 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 29th in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. that same day in St. Bavo Catholic Church, Mishawaka, IN. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
