Henry E. Van Overberghe

Henry E. Van Overberghe, 91, of Prairie Avenue, South Bend, Ind., died at 11:55 p.m. on Sunday, June 20, in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center. He was born on Nov. 9, 1907, in Wevelghem, Belgium, and lived in this area most of his life. Mr. Van Overberghe was a former employee of the former Studebaker Corporation, Van Overberghe Builders, and retired in 1975 from the Valley American Bank. On April 16, 1932, in South Bend, he married Martha Matthys, who survives. He is also survived by three daughters, Eleanor (Robert) De Graff and Mary Lou (Carl) Egyhazi, both of South Bend, and Virginia (Eugene) Kelly of Springfield, Ill.; 10 grandchildren, Michael (Tamar) De Graff of Monroe, Wash., Renee De Graff of Vandalia, Ohio, Andrea De Graff of South Bend, Marty De Graff of Lexington, Ky., Brian Kelly and Kevin (Lisa) Kelly, both of Springfield, Ill., Eileen (Richard) Orvan of Greensburg, Ind., Philip Egyhazi of Fort Wayne, Ind., Paula (Rey) Barreto of New Carlisle, Ind., and Terry Egyhazi of South Bend; and by three great- granddaughters. Mr. Van Overberghe was preceded in death by two brothers, Rev. Alfonse Van Overberghe and Joseph Van Overberghe; three sisters, Suzanna Matthys, Alice Van Overberghe and Marie Lips; a grandson, Robert N. De Graff, Jr., who died in 1965; and by a great-grandson, Christopher Barreto, who died in 1994.

 

Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be said at 4:30 p.m. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church, with burial to follow in the Highland Cemetery.
