John Van Tornhout

August 29, 1892 – May 20, 1972

 

Services for John Van Tornhout, 79, of the Carlyle Nursing Home, South Bend, and formerly of Mishawaka, who died at 7:45pm Saturday in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday in the DeVos Funeral Chapel.  Rev. Stephen Cvaniga, pastor of St. Bavo’s Church, will officiate, and burial will be in Highland Cemetery.  Mr. Van Tornhout had been ill since October 1971.

 

He was born on August 29, 1892, in Lootenhule, Belgium, and had lived in Mishawaka for 58 years, coming here from Belgium.  He was a retired employee of Uniroyal Inc.

 

Surviving are two sons, Charles Van Tornhout of St Petersburg FL and Edmond Van Tornhout of South Bend; a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Jefferson of Oconto WI; seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

 

Friends may call until 10pm today and until the time of services Tuesday in the funeral Chapel where the rosary will be recited at 7:30pm today.  Mr. Van Tornhout was a member of the BK Club.
