Leon C. VanWanzeele (Feb. 6, 1922 -- Nov. 19, 2004)

Leon C. VanWanzeele, 82, of East Fairington Circle, South Bend, Ind., passed away after an extended illness in his residence.

He was born on Feb. 6, 1922, in Lafayette, Ind., to Maurice and Romaine (VanHeyste) VanWanzeele, both of whom have preceded him in death, as well as a daughter, Carol Ferris.

Survivors include a son, Lee (Carolyn) VanWanzeele of Lakeville, Ind.; a grandson, Craig (Ann Marie) Ferris of South Bend; and a granddaughter, Lisa (Terry) Pearson of Chesterton, Ind.; a brother, Robert (Irene) VanWanzeele, also of South Bend; and three great-grandchildren.

Cremation will take place, with private burial at a later date.

The St. Joseph Funeral Home, 1827 E. Ireland Road, South Bend, is assisting the family with arrangements.
