Frederick Arthur VanZant

Frederick Arthur VanZant, 90, of Lincoln Way East, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away at 1:55 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 17, in St. Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka. He was born on June 23, 1923, in Pontiac, Mich., to the late Arthur and Anna (Fredericks) VanZant. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Carlos VanZant; and by sisters, Geraldine VanZant, Kathryn Lee and Jean Pixley.

 

In June 1935, Frederick married Madeleine Eunice (Surprenant). He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife; a son, Alex Frederick (Carol) VanZant of Mishawaka; his brother, Charles "John" VanZant of South Bend; a sister, Jeannette Ward of South Bend; and two grandchildren.

 

Frederick was self employed for many years. He was an owner and operator of a service station. He was also in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1945. He received the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.

 

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23, in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola, Ind., where friends may call one-half hour before services. Reverend Jack Cary will be officiating. Interment services are private at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the donor's choice.
