SOUTH BEND - Louis George Vargo, 89, of Parkview Place, died at 6:48 a.m. Saturday in Memorial Hospital. Mr. Vargo worked for O'Brien Paint Co. for 40 years. He was born April 26, 1906, in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident. On April 16, 1931, in South Bend, he married Anna Mary Reiter. She survives with a daughter, Barbara Hamilton of Brea, Calif.; and three grandchildren, Christopher Bradish of Redlands, Calif., Mary Elizabeth Bradish of Brea, and Michael Bradish of South Bend. He was a member of St. Hedwig's Holy Name Society, South Bend Eagles Lodge 435, and was active in Holy Cross Church. He was instrumental in developing and coaching the first softball and baseball teams for O'Brien Paint Co. and received numerous All-Star awards.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Cross Catholic Church. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Kaniewski Funeral Home, where members of St. Casimir's Catholic Church Senior Citizens will say the rosary at 2:30 p.m. with the Holy Cross Church parish rosary at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Church.

A daughter, Corrine, died in 1946
