Sept. 9, 1912 - May 7, 2000

Mary Vargo, 87, of Oakmont South Drive, South Bend, Ind., died following a lengthy illness on Sunday, May 7, in Regency Place of South Bend.

Miss Vargo was born on Sept. 9, 1912, in South Bend, to Kalman and Mari (Nemeth) Vargo and was a lifetime area resident. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by three sisters, Gizella Vargo, Anna Dupy and Joan Bukowski.

She is survived by a niece, Barbara (Greg) Humnicky of South Bend; three nephews, Walter (Michelle) Bukowski, William (Vicki) Bukowski and Michael Bukowski, all of South Bend; and by eight great-nieces and nephews.

Miss Vargo was a self-employed seamstress, had also been employed as a pediatric ward clerk at Memorial Hospital, and was a house mother of the State House Co-op at Purdue University for two years. She was a longtime member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in South Bend where a private funeral Mass will be held. Entombment will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 12, in the home of Barbara and Greg Humnicky, 19086 Oakmont South Drive, South Bend.
