Mary A. Vargo

Mary A. Vargo, 85, of State Road 23, Granger, Ind., passed away at 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, in Regency Place. Mrs. Vargo was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and its Seniors Club. Mary loved to be in her flower garden, baking cookies and making Christmas decorations. She was born on October 21, 1917, in Akron, Ohio, to Frank and Mary Sulok.

 

On October 26, 1940, in Granger as Mary Sulok she married Michael J. Vargo who survives. Also surviving are a son George (Veronica) Vargo of Granger; two grandchildren Vince (Karla) Vargo and Tony Vargo and his fiancée Kim; four sisters Julia Wuergler, Anna (Merle) Woofter, Margaret (Dick) Nelson, and Rose (Al) Zmyslo, all of South Bend, Ind.; and a brother Victor (Anita) Sulok of South Bend. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Violet Bradway and three brothers Charles Sulok, Andy Sulok, and Joseph Sulok.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, in St. Pius X Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Family and friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue, where a rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. and 1 hour prior to services in the church on Monday. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637 or to St. Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Road, Granger, IN 46530.
