Steve C. Varro (March 17, 1918 - Aug. 15, 2001)

Steve C. "Pete" Varro, 83, of Asbury Court, passed away at 1:05 a.m. Wed-nesday, Aug. 15, in Holy Cross Care and Rehab-ilitation Center.

 

Mr. Varro retired in 1980 from the Mastic Corporation where he was employed as a managing foreman of the plastic division. He was employed for 42 years at Mastic. Steve was a World War II Navy veteran, a member of the American Legion Post 26, Fraternal Order of Eagles #435, and was a lifetime member of the Chain-O-Lakes Conservation Club, Lydick, Ind.

 

He was born on March 17, 1918, in Wheeling, W.Va. On Aug. 24, 1941, in South Bend, he married Helen I. Maloy, who died on May 13, 1966. Mr. Varro was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Varro; two sisters-in-law, Ethel Kish and Revena Desits; and by three brothers-in-law, Ralph Maloy, Steve Kish and John Edwards.

 

He is survived by two daughters, Revie "Cooky" Stewart of South Bend and Sandra (Bruce) Farlow of Hudson, Fla.; a grandson, Arthur (Debbie) Bishop of South Bend; three great-grandchildren, Brandon, Kyle Thomas and Rachael; a sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Edwards of South Bend; a brother, Frank Varro of Las Vegas, Nev.; a sister-in-law, Maryann Varro of South Bend; and by a brother-in-law, Joseph Desits of South Bend.

 

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.

 

Family and friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Zahoran Funeral Home, where friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday.
