Genevieve Velleman

Genevieve Velleman, 87, formerly of West Sixth Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away at 5:45 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 16, in the Mequon Care Center, Mequon, Wis. Mrs. Velleman was born on July 11, 1910, in Gent, Belgium.

 

On June 16, 1930, in St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka, as Genevieve De Meyer, she married Julius Velleman, who preceded her in death on Jan. 8, 1996. Mrs. Velleman is survived by two daughters, Janet Stroobandt of Georgetown, Texas, and Sylvia Mirda of Mequon; a son, James Velleman of Bucyrus, Ohio; and by nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Velleman was a member of the B-K Club Ladies Auxiliary, a member of St. Bavo's Catholic Church and of the former Altar and Rosary Society.

 

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. Eighth Street, Mishawaka, with a wake prayer service at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday in St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka, with Rev. William Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
