William Vercruysse

William Vercruysse, 88, of S. Ironwood, South Bend, Ind., passed away on Monday afternoon, Feb. 26, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. William was born on Jan. 5, 1913, in Ghent, Belgium, to the late Charles (Karl Louis) and Eliza Vercruysse.

 

On Feb. 14, 1934, in St. Bavo Church, Mishawaka, William married the former Florine Hart, who preceded him in death on Dec. 14, 2000. Surviving are a daughter, Sharon Torma of South Bend; three grandchildren, Todd and Penny Torma of North Liberty, Ind., and Tracy Vanwynsberghe of Indianapolis, Ind.; and a great-grandson, Tory Torma of North Liberty.

 

William retired in 1976 from the Bendix Corporation after 43 years of service working as a machinist with experimental aircraft. While working at Bendix he also operated the former Bill's Garage on 7th Street in Mishawaka. He was a member of Eagles Aerie 2083, United Auto Workers Local #9, and was a former member of the Goodfellows Club and the BK Club.

 

Private services will be held today, Feb. 28, at the Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka, with Fr. Robert A. Yast officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick's Parish, 801 Tyler Street, Walkerton, IN 46574; or Mass cards to the parish of your choice. The Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home is handling Mr. Vercruysse's arrangements.
