Alice Verhostra

Sept. 14, 1917 - March 30, 2003

Alice Verhostra, 85, of Hickory Road, Granger, Ind., died Sunday, March 30, in her residence.

She was born on Sept. 14, 1917, in Mishawaka, Ind., to the late Emily (Braeckavelt) and Charles Schoonaert. On March 30, 1940, in St. Bavo Catholic Church, Mishawaka, as Alice Schoonaert, she married Charles Edward "Chuck" Verhostra, who preceded her in death on June 19, 2002. Mrs. Verhostra was also preceded in death by a son, Robert; and by three sisters, Mary Vaerwyck, Josephine Seese and Margaret Boudonck.

Mrs. Verhostra is survived by a daughter, Judy (Jim) Grabowski of Bremen, Ind.; two sons, Larry and Ray (Diana) Verhostra, both of Granger; and by eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Verhostra was a homemaker and helped on the family farm. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Granger, but most importantly she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be sadly missed.

Services for Mrs. Verhostra will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 3, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until time of services. Burial will be at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.
