Desire A. Verslype

July 30, 1921 - Aug. 3, 2000

Desire A. "Dish" Verslype, 79, of West 14th Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after an illness at 5:20 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 3, in the Holy Cross Care & Rehabilitation Center, South Bend, Ind.

Mr. Verslype was born on July 30, 1921, in Moline, Ill., as the son of the late Arthur and Sophie (Van Landtschoote) Verslype. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Marie Miller, and one brother, Henry A. Verslype.

In St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka, he married the former Prudence "Maime" Beesbrouck. Mr. Verslype is survived by his wife, "Maime"; three daughters, Susan (Tim) Liddell and Marie Verslype, both of South Bend, and Nicolett (Jim) Duncan of Mishawaka; one son, Michael (Elaine) Verslype of Mishawaka; nine grandchildren, Travis Verslype, Danielle Kasznia, Culeen Becker, Sean Liddell, Erin Becker, Brian Liddell, Molly Becker, Kyle Liddell and Brianne Duncan; four great-grandchildren, Gavin Verslype, Katherine Verslype, Louis Kasznia and Alexander Kasznia; and by a sister, Margaret De Wulf of Mishawaka

Mr. Verslype was a self-employed building contractor for 25 years, and retired as a maintenance supervisor from the University of Notre Dame after 10 years. He was a United States Army veteran, serving in World War II. Mr. Verslype was a member of V.F.W. Post #360, Mishawaka. He was a member of St. Bavo's Catholic Church. Mr. Verslype was the former Mishawaka Building Commissioner, a member of the Builder's Association of St. Joseph County, and was a member of the B-K Club, Mishawaka.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 4, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, where a Rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5, in St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka, with Rev. James Shafer officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
