Charles F. Vogel, 90, of Fort Worth, Texas, formerly of South Bend, passed away Monday, August 15, 2005. Chuck was born August 15, 1915, in Anderson, Indiana, a son of the late Arthur and Dora (Liske) Vogel. He moved to South Bend with his family when he was a child.

 

On February 27, 1935, Chuck married Evelyn J. Bolin and the couple made their home in South Bend. Chuck served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed for 43 years at Bendix Aviation and was instrumental in organizing their union. Chuck was active with local Democratic party politics. Following retirement, he did volunteer work with United Way. Chuck enjoyed fishing, bowling, golfing, gardening, and had a sweet tooth. He enjoyed his grandchildren. Chuck and Evelyn moved to Texas three years ago to live with their daughter, Dorothy.

 

Chuck's surviving family includes his wife of 70 years, Evelyn; seven children, Carol A. Pietraszewski of South Bend, Charles R. Vogel of Fort Worth, Dorothy L. Coker of Fort Worth, Richard A. Vogel of South Bend, Sara Amy Renner of Fort Worth, John L. Vogel of Lakeville and Melissa F. Vrudny of Minnesota; four sisters, Agnes Tiedge of Mishawaka, Helen Tschida of South Bend, Doris Misch of Michigan and Pat Biesbrouck of Michigan; a brother, Gerald Vogel of South Bend; 29 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ann and Gertrude; a brother, Arthur; and two grandchildren.

 

Friends may spend time with Chuck's family today (Thursday) from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. Third Street, Mishawaka, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend, with Rev. Barry England officiating. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
