SOUTH BEND - Evelyn June Vogelgesang, 70, of Meridian Nursing Center-Cardinal, formerly of Topsfield Road, died at 8:05 a.m. today in the nursing center. Mrs. Vogelgesang was born June 1, 1924, in New Paris, Ohio, and had lived in South Bend since 1945, coming from Richmond, Ind.

On June 10, 1944, in Richmond, as Evelyn J. Hawley, she married Charles Vogelgesang. He died May 1, 1979. She is survived by a daughter, Debra Wray of South Bend; a son, William of Independence, Ohio; a grandson; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Ruth Ann Kircher of Richmond; and two brothers, Keith Hawley of Richmond and Roger Hawly of Sidney, Ohio. She was a member of Evangel Heights United Methodist Church and Order of Eastern Star Chapter 2.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Phoenix House.
