SOUTH BEND - Charles D. Vollmer, 79, of South 30th Street, died at 10 a.m. Friday in Memorial Hospital. Mr. Vollmer retired in 1979 as a printer from The Tribune after 47 years of service.

He was born Nov. 9, 1914, in Fort Loramie, Ohio, and lived in this area most of his life, coming from Ohio. On Aug. 5, 1939, in South Bend, he married Maxine L. Schott. She survives, with two daughters, Sandy Keller and Janie Pollex, both of Mishawaka; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Del Rodts of Beverly Hills, Fla.; and four brothers, Ralph of South Bend, Richard of Mishawaka, Elmer of Dowagiac, and William of New Carlisle. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, South Bend Press Club, American Turners, and was a graduate of South Bend Central High School.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Cremation will take place at Riverview Crematory. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Hickey Funeral Home, 3516 East Jefferson Blvd. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or to St. Joseph County Heart Fund.
