Ann Gruber Wach, 84, of Sterling House, formerly of Hampstead Court, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 8:22 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 4, in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center. Ann was the former owner of Gruber's Supermarket. She was born on Jan. 6, 1915, in Niles, Mich.

 

On May 9, 1936, in South Bend, as Ann Steinhofer, she married John ''Dutch'' Gruber, Sr., who died on May 21, 1977. Ann was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Gruber; and by a sister, Pauline Andert. On Feb. 16, 1980, in South Bend, she married Paul Wach, who survives. She is also survived by two sons, John (Nancy) Gruber, Jr., and James (Jackie) Gruber, both of South Bend; a daughter-in-law, Cathy Gruber of South Bend; two stepdaughters, Marlene (Gerald) Vogel of South Bend and Linn Sexton of San Diego, Calif.; and by 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7, in St. Matthew Cathedral. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue, where a Rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. by the St. Ann Society of Our Lady of Hungary Church, DFV German Club Ladies Auxiliary, and the Knights of Columbus Wives.
