Robert J. Wachs, Sr.

July 16, 1918- July 21, 2000

Robert J. Wachs, Sr., 82, residing on Ginger Street, Edwardsburg, Mich., passed away at 1:33 a.m. on Friday, July 21, in Elkhart General Hospital. Mr. Wachs retired in 1979 from Dodge Manufacturing in Mishawaka, Ind., as the director of procedures and management following 42 years of service.

He was born on July 16, 1918, in Mishawaka, to the late Joseph and Eleanore (Hansen) Wachs, and had resided in this community all of his life.

On April 25, 1943, in River Park United Methodist Church, South Bend, Ind., he was married to Betty Jane Kindig. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Betty Jane; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert J. and Paula Wachs, Jr., of Granger, Ind.; two grandchildren, Robert J. Wachs, III, and Courtney Wachs, both at home; and by a sister, Betty Meuninck, and a brother, Richard Wachs, both of South Bend.

Mr. Wachs was a World War II veteran of the 12th Armored Division, a member of the Dodge Quarter Century Club, and attended the River Park United Methodist Church.

Services for Mr. Wachs will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 24, in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Rev. Steve Randall, pastor of the Harris Prairie Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 6 p.m. today, July 23, in the Palmer Funeral Home.
