Robert J. Waddick, Sr.

Robert J. Waddick, Sr., 77, of the Healthwin Specialized Care Facility, and formerly of North Ivy Road, South Bend, Ind., died at 5:34 p.m. on Mon-day, July 6, in St. Joseph's Medical Center. He was born on Dec. 31, 1920, in Roxbury, Mass., and had lived here since 1946. He retired in May 1994 from the University of Notre Dame as an assistant dean of Arts and Letters. He was married on Dec. 27, 1947, in South Bend, to Esther A. Soleta, who preceded him in death on Oct. 18, 1982. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lisa Marie Borchers, who died in 1976. Mr. Waddick is survived by two daughters, Rosanne Morris and Mary Beth Waddick, both of South Bend; a son, Robert J. Waddick, Jr., of South Bend; three grandchildren, Beth Anne Borchers, Kristin Borchers and Richard Michael Kasznia, all of South Bend; three great-grandchildren, Dwayne Thomas Borchers, Amanda Nicole Morrison and Alyssa Colleen Sanchez, all of South Bend; and by a brother, James H. Waddick of Waltham, Mass. Mr. Waddick received a Master of Arts degree, graduating magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame. He was a second lieutenant in the United States Navy and the recipient of the Purple Heart.

 

Family and friends may call from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend, where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Building Fund, 3525 St. Johns Way, South Bend, IN 46628.
