Mary Winifred Waechter

Mary Winifred "Winnie" Waechter, 88, of S. Holiday Drive, South Bend, died Sunday evening in her home surrounded by her family. Winnie was born September 10, 1917, in Bertrand, Michigan, to Mathew and Agnes (Dorian) Walsh. Winnie retired from the South Bend Clinic as head of the insurance department after many years.

 

On May 22, 1943, in South Bend, she married H. George Waechter who died December 12, 2002. She was preceded in death by her five brothers, Bernard, Richard, Thomas, Howard and John Walsh. Surviving is a daughter, Mary Ann Waechter and a son, Gerald M. Waechter, both of South Bend. A sister, Eileen (Bill) Cosgrove of Weston, Florida, and several very special nieces and nephews.

 

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, in the HICKEY Funeral Homes, 3516 E. Jefferson Blvd. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola. Friends may call from noon until services Wednesday in the funeral home. Winnie was a member of St. Anthony's parish and graduate of St. Mary's Academy.
