Earl Eugene Walker, Sr.

July 12, 1929 - Feb. 25, 1999

Reverend Earl Eugene Walker, Sr., 69, loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, of West Fredrickson Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away following an extended illness at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25, in his residence. On July 12, 1929, in South Bend, he was born to the union of Herbert and Virgie (Alexander) Walker who both preceded him in death. Rev. Walker graduated from the former South Bend Central High School and also the former South Bend Theological Baptist Seminary College. He served several years in the United States Marines and was honorably discharged. He became an ordained minister in 1967 and served as a pastor of St. John C.M.E. in Fort Wayne, Ind. He was employed with the city of South Bend Park Department for over 42 years before retiring in April of 1992.

 

He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving wife, Marie G.T. Walker; one son, Earl Walker, Jr. of South Bend; two daughters, Denise (Vaughn) Dickens and Anita Motley, both of South Bend; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Belcher and Velma (Nathaniel) Roberts, both of South Bend; along with a host of family members, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family who will mourn his passing. He was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Scott; and by an aunt, Mary Green.

 

Funeral services will occur at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2, at the Laymen Chapel C.M.E. Church.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. on Monday at the Alford's Mortuary Chapel. Alford's Mortuary is in charge of handling the arrangements.
