James Walkowski

October 2, 1931 - April 3, 1987

 

DRIVER INJURED THURSDAY DIES

Services for James Walkowski, 55, of 54049 Quince Road, who died at 11:36pm Friday in Memorial Hospital of injuries suffered in an automobile accident Thursday, will be at 10am Tuesday in St John the Baptist Catholic Church.  Burial will be in St Joseph Cemetery.

 

Friends may call from 2 to 9pm Monday in the St Joseph Funeral Home.  Memorial services will be conducted at 6:30pm Monday by Warren Township Volunteer Fire Fighters Association.  A parish rosary will be said at 7:30pm Monday.  Mrs. Walkowski was a volunteer firefighter of Warren Twp, a member and manager of Polish National Alliance 83, a member of Chain-O-Lakes Conservation Club, and a veteran of the Korean War.

 

County police reported that he was driving west on US 20 shortly before 7am Thursday, lost control on the icy pavement, went off the road and was trapped in the overturned car.

 

He was an employee of Adams Engineering.  He was born on October 2, 1931, in South Bend and he lived in the area all of his life.  On September 5, 1964, in Mishawaka, he married Ruth VanDriessche, who survives.  Also surviving are four daughters, Annette Walkowski, Sheila Walkowski, Pamela Walkowski and Dore Walkowski, all at home; a son, James at home; three sisters, Lucille Kopczynski and Marcia Sink, both of South Bend and Betty Elias of Niles; a brother, Ernest of South Bend; and his mother, Jennie Walkowski of South Bend.
