Joseph A. Walsh

? - Sept. 5, 2008

South Bend Tribune 9/9/2008

GRANGER - Joseph A. Walsh, born in Granger, IN, in the house that is now known as the "Rib Shack," was preceded in death by his whole family, parents, three sisters and two brothers. Anyone who knew him knew that he was the spice in that house, so maybe he left some of his "charisma" for the Rib Schack?! Joseph died Friday, Sept. 5th, at 9:40 p.m. in the Healthwin Specialized Care Unit, where he was receiving extraordinary care from complications following his surgery after a fall at 530 Tanglewood Trace, Apt. 307, Mishawaka, IN, on August 12, 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn B. of 60 years, who passed on June 11 2006; his son, Tom, 36; and two grandchildren, Timothy, 12, and Jennifer, 9, of Houston, TX. Joseph Walsh is survived by two sons, Michael E. of Austin, TX, and Gerald W. of Las Vegas; his only daughter, Kathleen M. of Edwardsburg; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Joe worked for Michiana Wholesale as their sales manager for 40 years, and he retired from there. He was very active in his community. He played golf in the St. Matthew's league on Monday nights at Studebaker Golf Course, he coached many little league teams at South Side Little League and at St. Matthew's Grade School. He bowled in a Friday night league with his friends and he was also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians for years. Joe was also an usher at St. Matthew's for 36 years, where he served under Bishop Crowley and others. He was a very dedicated man who would take the time to help you if you needed it. Joe Walsh could always look you straight in the eye and give you a firm handshake; that's the kind of guy he was! Many hearts will be broken when this obituary hits the news stands.

Friends and family may call in the McGann Hay, University Chapel, Edison Road, on Tuesday (today) from 4 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be held on Wednesday in St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Please send all donations to Healthwin Comfort Care Facility, c/o Joe Walsh. Thank you.
