Margaret Jean Walsh (December 6, 1919 – August 16, 2008).

SOUTH BEND – Margaret Jean Walsh, 88, passed away at 11:45pm Saturday, August 16, 2008 in Southfield Village.

Jean was born on December 6, 1919, in Galesburg, IL to Earl and Susan (McLernon) Anderson. She has lived in South Bend for 62 years coming from San Diego, CA. Mrs. Walsh was an artist, housewife and mother who was a member of the Christ Child Society. On January 29, 1944 in National City, CA she married Carl Walsh. He was in the navy during World War II, and she worked in a defense plant in San Diego. Carl died on July 8, 1985.

Surviving are five daughters Susan Ferrill of South Bend, Julie (Richard) Lapinski of Battle Creek, MI, Patty (Martin) Szakaly of South Bend, Mary (Joe) Riedle of South Bend and Anne (Michael) Cass of South Bend; three sons Dave (Sue) Walsh of Cincinnati,OH, Mike (Dori) Walsh of Granger, and Kevin (Cindy) Walsh of Richland, MI; 22 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister Helen DePaepe of St. Louis, MO; and two brothers Richard Anderson of California and Robert Anderson of Rock Island, IL.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am Thursday, August 21, 2008 in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Cremation will follow with the burial of ashes in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 Wednesday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue where a rosary will be recited at 3:00. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christ Child Society.
