Sister Bertilde Walsh CSC

Sister Bertilde CSC, 91, died Sunday in St. Mary’s Convent, after 61 years as a religious teacher, superior and supervisor of schools in the congregation. She had been off duty since 1936 and confined to the infirmary for several years because of feebleness. Born in Ireland in 1852 as Sarah Teresa Walsh, she came to Minnesota with her parents, where she received her education and taught school. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s in the class of 1882. In 1883 she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, making her final profession three years later. Survivors in clude a niece Sister M. Verona CSC of Anderson, Ind.

 

A requiem high mass will be sung in the Chapel of Our Lady of Loretto Tuesday morning, followed by burial in the community cemetery.
