Sister M. Dolorilda Walton CSC

Sister M. Dolorilda (Vera Walton), CSC, 97, died on Wednesday, July 12, in Saint Mary's Convent, Notre Dame, Ind. Sister M. Dolorilda was born on April 10, 1903, to the late Boaz Parker Walton and Florence Poorman Walton in Battle Creek, Mich.

 

Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross in 1945, made her first profession in 1948, and her final profession in 1951. Sister M. Dolorilda attended Michigan State Normal College, Ypsilanti, Mich., and completed nurses training at Nichols Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Battle Creek, and worked as a nurse before entering the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross. She also taught eighth grade in the public schools. After entering the Congregation, Sister was in nursing from 1948 to 1980. She was a nursing supervisor and educator at St. Mary's Hospital, Cairo, Ill., Our Saviour's Hospital, Jacksonville, Ill., and staff nurse at Saint Mary's Convent, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame.

 

Among her duties were medical records and pharmacy assistant. Sister was a nurse at Holy Cross House, Notre Dame, from 1961-1975. She was receptionist at Moreau Seminary 1975-1984, and a volunteer for church activities at Sacred Heart Church, Notre Dame, from 1984-1986. Sister came to Saint Mary's Convent in 1986 as a volunteer for whatever needed to be done, and then became active in the Ministry of Prayer until her death. She is survived by nephews.

 

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. today with wake service at 7 p.m. today, July 13, in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 14, in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's, followed by interment at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame.
