Jeanette V. Ward

Jeanette V. Ward, 84, of Farnsworth Drive, South Bend, Ind., passed away on Tuesday, April 23, in Our Lady of Peace Hospital in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend.

Jeanette was born on April 22, 1918, in South Bend, as the daughter of the late Arthur and Anna (Frederick) Van Zant. Jeanette was preceded in death by three sisters, Geraldine Van Zant, Catherine Lee and Jean Pixley; two brothers, Carlos and Frederick Van Zant; a stepson, Rev. Max E. Ward; and by a step-grandson, John Ward.

 

On Dec. 1, 1945, in South Bend, as the former Jeanette Van Zant, she married Coy Ward, who also preceded her in death on April 10, 1989. Jeanette is survived by two stepsons, Berl B. (Ellen) Ward, M.D., of Billings, Mont., and Jerry W. (Rosemary) Ward of Elkhart, Ind.; seven step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles "John" Van Zant of South Bend; a sister-in-law, Madeleine Van Zant of Mishawaka, Ind.; two nieces, Pauline Lambert of South Bend and Susanne Mumger of Lakeville, Ind.; five nephews, Richard Van Zant of Granger, Ind., Tom Van Zant of Dowagiac, Mich., Alex Van Zant of Mishawaka, John Van Zant of Phoenix, Ariz., and James "Jim" Van Zant of South Bend; and by a dear friend, Beverly Wills.

 

Jeanette worked briefly as a secretary and then spent her life as a busy homemaker. She loved her flowers and enjoyed the friendship of her many friends, especially her friends, Jen and John Davenport, and her helpful neighbor, Beverly Wills. There will be no viewing or memorial services. Her final resting place will be in the hearts of those she loved. The Hahn Funeral Home, Mishawaka, is handling the arrangements.
