Rev. Leo R. Ward  CSC, 91, of Holy Cross House, Notre Dame, died at. St. Joseph Medical Center at 10:45 a.m. Saturday after an illness. Born April 19, 1983 in Melrose, Iowa, he attended Jackson Township school and entered Holy Cross Seminary in 1914. He made his first profession of vows in the Congregation of Holy Cross on Oct. 6, 1920; graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1923; and after theological studies at Holy Cross College, Washington DC, was ordained to the priesthood on June 24, 1927 in Sacred Heart Church, Notre Dame.

 

Father Ward studied philosophy at Catholic University and received his Ph.D. in 1929. He also did postdoctoral study at Oxford and Louvain. Father Ward joined the faculty of the University of Notre Dame in 1929. Since 1976, he had been residing at Holy Cross House.

 

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Sacred Heart Church, Notre Dame. Burial will be in Community Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:30 p.m. Monday at Moreau Seminary Chapel, where a wake service is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. The Hickey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
